Constant Duval

Constant Duval (full civil status: Constant Léon Duval) (1877-1956) was a French painter, poster artist and designer. Born to innkeeper parents, he turned to drawing and painting and became a student of the painters Antoine Guillemet and Paul Michel Dupuy. He set up his studio at Villa Chaptal in Levallois, near Paris.
He participated in the Salon d'Automne in Paris in 1904, then in the Salon des indépendants, the Salon des artistes français from 1907 and the Salon d'hiver from 1910- From 1910 and until the nationalization of the French railways (SNCF, The Société nationale des chemins de fer français) in 1937 Constant Duval created numerous posters for the companies operating the various networks. His subjects are almost always linked to the representation of landscapes, known or not.
