Pierre Fix-Masseau

Pierre Fix-Masseau (1905-1994) was a French graphic artist and son of Pierre-Félix Fix-Masseau. Fix-Masseau studied at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He began working for the Parisian printer Nortier in 1927. A year later he became a student of  illustrator and designer A. M. Cassandre. Pierre Fix-Masseau is considered one of the leading poster designer of his era, the Art Deco period. Traffic was a popular theme in Art Deco (the frozen geometric form contrasts with the dynamism that the theme requires). Between 1929 and 1939 he worked for the Parisian publisher Edita, after the war for the publisher Aljanvic, as well as for several large companies (Shell, Air France, Philips) and the Loterie Nationale. Among his first posters, we find: Côte d’Azur Pullman-Express (1929) and especially Etat-Exactitude (1929/1932) Let us also mention: Le Mont Saint-Michel (1933), Huiles Renault les meilleures (1934), Le rouge baiser, permet le baiser (1937).
