Gabriel Chanteau

Gabriel Chanteau (1874-1955) was a French painter. From a family originally from the Angers region, Gabriel Chanteau studied at the École municipale Bernard-Palissy then at the École nationale des beaux-arts. He is responsible for portraits, portraits-charges and decorative painting but is especially known for his seascapes. Gabriel Chanteau also drew many illustrations for bibliophile works. Official painter of the Navy, he received a medal from the l'Union centrale des arts décoratifs ainsi que de la Société d'encouragement à l'art et à l'industrie. He was presented in many galleries in the West and South of France.
