Blacksad
Blacksad is a Spanish comic strip series by scriptwriter Juan Diaz Canales and artist Juanjo Guarnido, published by the French publisher Dargaud Benelux from 2000. The series is set in the United States of the fifties in the form of an anthropomorphic animal world. Inspector Blacksad, a cat, is a private detective in a film noir setting. From the second album onwards, he is regularly assisted by the photojournalist Weekly, a somewhat sloppy marten. In the stories, the creators refer to themes from American culture and history in the fifties, such as racism and the Ku Klux Klan (in Arctic Nation), McCarthyism (in Âme Rouge, eng.: Red Soul), blues and jazz (in L'Enfer, le silence, eng.: Hell, Silence), the Beat Generation (in Amarillo) and the connection between unions and the mafia (in Alors, tout tombe, eng.: Masks Fall).
