Håkan Brunberg

Håkan Brunberg (1905 – 1978) was a Finnish painter. Brunberg is particularly known for his naive depictions of Helsinki's cityscapes, especially around Kauppatori and Kappel. Other subjects of his were, among others, fires and a paradise bubbling and teeming with life. In some of his works, Brunberg mocked war both on land and at sea, and also brought out his political position with his paintings of classrooms. Brunberg's paintings were often based on myths, accidents and longing. The artist acted as a storyteller in his paintings, and his stories continued to always lead to new stories.
