Haigh Foundry


Haigh Foundry was an ironworks and foundry in the Douglas Valley in Haigh, Lancashire, from around 1790. The ironworks and foundry had diffenrent owners. After 1804, the works acquired a reputation for manufacturing winding engines and pumping equipment for the coal mining industry. New partners in 1835 intended to produce railway locomotives. In 1856, Haigh Foundry had built over 100 locomotives and in addition bridges and pumping engines. After 1856 the factory concentrated on heavy engineering but made at least two locomotives.
