Charles-Jean Hallo
 

Charles-Jean Hallo (1882 - 1969), also known as Alo, was a renowned French painter, engraver, illustrator, and poster artist. The son of a military man, he spent his childhood in Dijon, where he attended the École des Beaux-Arts in that city, followed by the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1907, he exhibited at the annual Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He served in the air force during the First World War as an observer-photographer. In 1920, he settled in Senlis in the North of Francer, where he founded the Musée de la Vénerie. His holidays spent in Brittany provided him with the inspiration for numerous compositions. His favourite themes were landscapes, aircraft and animals. He created over a hundred posters for railway companies, which he signs ALO. He also illustrated numerous titles by Jules Verne for the publishing company Hachette.
