The locomotive ODIN
The locomotive Odin is Denmark's first locomotive from 1848. Originally designed by Sharp, Stewart and Co., Manchester, England in 1846. Construction number 364. Odin arrived by ship in Copenhagen in August 1846. Korsør from 1856. Decommissioned 1862. Rebuilt 1864. Renumbered 1871 to A 1. Renumbered 1876 to I 61. Decommissioned and scrapped 1876. With a weight of approximately 20 tons and a top speed of up to 50 km/h and a length of approximately 11.65 meters, "Odin" made its entrance on the Danish railways. After being taken out of service in 1876, the Danish Railway Museum built a meticulous reconstruction of the locomotive in Roskilde depot between 2005 and 2018. The new locomotive is rebuilt as a full-size replica with the same materials and with the same techniques as the original and ready to run. Volunteers have shaped and assembled, including riveting, parts that have been cut and produced by specialist craftsmen in Denmark and abroad or at the museum. However, the steam boiler itself has been shaped as a complete component at an approved boiler factory. The locomotive is part of the exhibition about Denmark's first railway in Danmarks Jernbanemuseum (Danish State Railway Museum).
