The Art and Industrial Exhibition in Wolverhampton of 1902 was a significant regional event that reflected the spirit of innovation, industry, and culture at the turn of the 20th century. Held from May to November 1902, the exhibition aimed to showcase Wolverhampton’s achievements in art, industry, and manufacturing while attracting national and even international attention.Wolverhampton was an important industrial town in the West Midlands during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Known for industries such as iron and steel production, japanning (a type of lacquer work), lock-making, and bicycle manufacturing, the town played a central role in Britain’s industrial growth. The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw a rise in major exhibitions across Britain and Europe. These events were inspired by the success of the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London and sought to promote local industries, arts, and innovation.
