Baralong Bull

The English Punch magazine, known for its satirical take on current events, often published cartoons and articles about Railway Mania, which was peaking around 1845. This was the period when speculative investments in railways were rampant in Britain, and many people were investing large sums into railway shares.
Baralong Bull is a fictional name. "Baralong Bull" might have been a creative or adapted nickname. "Baralong" represents some caricatured or exaggerated aspect of British society or the stock-buying public of the time. The "Bull" in stock market terms typically represents someone who believes prices will rise (a "bull market" reflects optimism and aggressive buying). In the context of Railway Mania Punch portrays a bullish investor,  excessively enthusiastic or naive about railway investments.
